I helgen som gick, hade församlingen besök av Hans Sundberg. Hans är mentor både för mig som pastor och för församlingen. En helg varje termin träffar Hans mig och Lise-Lotte, ledargruppen och hela församlingen. Där emellan har vi regelbunden kontakt.

Mentorskap handlar om att bygga en relation mellan en mentor och en adept, eller i vårt fall också en församling. En mentor är någon med erfarenhet och kunskap inom ett särskilt område och som genom sitt intresse för andra människor kan fungera som förebild och rådgivare. Som mentor kan det också handla om att vilja hjälpa en ny generation att utvecklas.

Idag förekommer många liknande begrepp. Det finns konsulter och coacher inom alla möjliga områden. Men mentorskap skiljer sig en hel del från exempelvis begreppet coaching.

• Mentorskap är relationsbaserat, medan coaching bygger mer på specifika mål, och en speciell fråga.
• Mentorskap är långsiktigt, medan coaching är kortsiktigt.
• Mentorskap handlar om utveckling, inte bara i nuet, utan även för framtiden. Coachning däremot handlar mer om prestation, och om att bli bättre inom ett specifikt område.
• Mentorskap kräver planering, medan coaching kan ges i stort sett närsomhelst och i vilket ämne som helst.

Hans Sundberg har funnits med i hela vår process, från att tanken om att starta ny församling väcktes till att det idag är en verklighet.  Och mentorskapet fortsätter. Vi är så tacksamma för vänskapen, för all uppmuntran och vägledning, och för att vi får ta del av erfarenheten från en person som tjänat som församlingspastor och ledare under så många år, som kombinerar gedigen teologisk kunskap med ett liv i den helige Ande, som har planterat åtskilliga församlingar utöver hela världen och som har ett brinnande missionsintresse.

This weekend, the congregation received a visit from Hans Sundberg. Hans acts as mentor both for me as a pastor and for the church. One weekend every term, Hans comes to meet me and Lise-Lotte, the leader group and the whole church – and we keep regularly in touch in the meantime.

Mentoring is about building a relationship between a mentor and a pupil, or in our case a whole church. A mentor is someone who has experience and knowledge in a particular area and due to his or her interest in other people, is able to act as role model and advisor. Being a mentor may also be about wanting to help a new generation to develop.

There are many similar concepts today. There are consultants and coaches in every area you can think of. But mentoring differs a lot from, for example, the idea of coaching.

• Mentoring is relationship-based, while coaching builds more on specific goals, and a special issue.
• Mentoring is long-term, while coaching is short-term.
• Mentoring is about developing, not just for the time being, but also for the future. Coaching, on the other hand, is more about performance, and about improving within a specific area.
• Mentoring takes planning, while coaching can be given virtually wherever, whenever and in any subject you like

Hans Sundberg has been involved all along the way with our church, from when the idea of ​​starting a new church was born to its being a reality today. And the mentorship continues. We are so grateful for Hans’ friendship, for all the encouragement and guidance he has given us, and for our being able to share the experience of a person who served as a church pastor and leader for so many years – combining solid theological knowledge with a life in the Holy Spirit, a man who has planted divers churches all over the world and one who has a burning interest in missions.
